Singing

The dormitory was a five story building constructed around an open central court and the dining hall occupied one side of the basement story, an at nights after supper, it was the general custom for the boys of the various races to group themselves together in different corners under the galleries of the court where they would sing their national folk songs. In a lull, the Bulgarians would start singing one of their powerful mountain songs while the rest kept silent.

When they had finished the Greeks would start singing their haunting melodies of great sweetness. In turn the Armenians would start up with their songs of pathos. And so on until nightfall began to descend upon us.
